Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota – A Special Film

There have been people who are not too impressed by Vasan Bala’s Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and I believe I know the reason. When you take a look at the trailer, many would have expected a non-stop thrill ride filled with action. While the film does do this, there is so much more present in it. And the expectations were probably skewed as a result of that. But the truth is that the film is so much more and I am glad that this was the case. There are kickass action sequences but there is so much character building which is heartening and a little surprising given the run time. A big reason for the film’s success it’s cinematic strength. By this I mean the way Bala uses visuals and sound to create a riveting experience.

And the other pillar of the film is the performances of Abhimanyu Dassani, Radhika Madan and Gulshan Devaiah. The dual roles of Jimmy and Mani are a particular highlight of the film. It is tough to see anyone but Gulshan play this role. Abhimanyu and Radhika nail the physical and emotional parts of their roles and the former’s efforts pay off big time on screen. This is really a special film and that one deserves to be celebrated more. But even if that does not happen, I am thankful like this exists.

There is so much to unpack in the film that a separate post could be done about the references alone. But I still feel sad that Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota did not become as big a hit as it should have been. Now that its on Netflix, the cult of the film is only gonna grow bigger. I can’t wait to see what Vasan Bala and team come up with next.

Until next time, bye.
